Pancake Day is crepe-ing up

Nisa is preparing its independent retailers for Pancake Day with stacks of fantastic deals on a range of Shove Tuesday essentials.

Research shows that 8.52 million eggs are consumed in the UK on Pancake Day - that’s 22 million more than a normal day – and with almost half of all shoppers in the UK having pancakes on Pancake Day 2019, it presents a sweet opportunity for retailers to stack up on sales.

Retailers will be able to cater for those planning on cooking from scratch with competitive prices on all the basic pancake ingredients including Be-Ro flour 1.1kg bags for £1, Tate and Lyle granulated sugar 500g for 50p and £2.10 for a dozen Co-op Free Range eggs. 

Shoppers with a bit less time on their hands are catered for with a range of pancake mixes including McDougal classic pancake mix 192g, Greens classic pancake mix 232g and the Antonelli Pancake Shaker mix 155g for just £1 each.

Research reveals that the top two most popular pancake toppings in the UK last year were strawberry and banana, both of which are available to Nisa shoppers: The Co-op Fairtrade bananas are on offer at £1.09, as are punnets of Co-op strawberries for just £2.


Other toppings such as Nutella (400g for £2.50), Lotus Biscoff smooth biscuit spread (400g for £2), Clarks maple syrup (180ml for £1.50) and Jif squeezy lemon juice (100ml for 59p) are also available. 

Graham Holbrook, wholesale category controller at Nisa, said: “Every year Pancake Day proves to be a hit with shoppers, and this year we wanted to place a focus on toppings to ensure there was something available for everyone. For example, shoppers continuing their vegan journey following Veganuary might opt for the vegan-friendly Lotus Biscoff smooth biscuit spread – the perfect option for a sweet tooth!

“The promotion is being supporting by themed point of sale, and we encourage Nisa partners to make space on a seasonal fixture for the range so that shoppers can’t miss it.

“Pancake Day ingredients are routinely unplanned and frequently bought either on, or close to the day itself so it’s important to have all the key products available and visible in-store.”
