Nisa’s charity to partner with leading Yorkshire run in its 20th year

Posted on March 12, 2019

Nisa’s registered charity, Making a Difference Locally, has announced it is supporting the Humber Bridge Half Marathon for two years as the official event partner.

On Sunday 30th June, The Humber Bridge will welcome thousands of pounding feet onto its iconic structure as the Rotary Club of Hull’s Humber Bridge Half Marathon takes place once again, this year celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary. The event covers Hessle and Barton, in addition to the 2,400 meters across the bridge, with stunning views across the Humber. The 20th year sees the race organisers welcome new energy in the form of the new partnership with Making a Difference Locally (MADL), which will see investment for the next two years in ensuring the runners’ experience at the event continues to be improved whilst helping to raise a fantastic amount of money for good causes. The annual charity run gives a stage for over £100,000 to be raised by local and national causes each year as well as providing a platform for individuals to improve their health and well-being with many runners undertaking a training programme running up to the event. MADL’s Head of Charity, Kate Carroll said of the partnership: “We are delighted and honoured to be the partner for the Humber Bridge Half Marathon and support this fantastic local event for two years. We wanted to back the wonderful work of the Humber Half Volunteer committee as their efforts and that of the runners deserves to be recognised and supported.

“MADL exists to invest in building stronger local communities, the communities that are served by over 2,300 independently owned Nisa stores, and so we’re thrilled to partner with an event that also raises a significant amount of money for good causes every year. Our teams are already in training and we will be taking part as well as investing financially in what we know will be the most successful year in the event’s illustrious history”. John Curry, Race Director, added: “Not only does this year see us reach 20 years of the event for which myself and the hundreds of volunteers that make the event happen each year are incredibly proud of, but the 2019 event route has also been amended which means there is the chance to set a new course record, as for the first time ever, participants will be running on both the outward and inward legs across the Humber Bridge totally traffic free, which will be a delight for all runners.”

Entry for the Humber Bridge Half Marathon is still recognised by national running leaders as one of the ‘must-do’ runs in the annual calendar, with entry fees still one of the best value for money in the UK.
