Nisa colleagues Make a Difference at local hospital

A number of Nisa colleagues spent the day volunteering at their local hospital yesterday to provide a better environment for its patients and visitors.

The volunteering session was the first as part of Nisa’s new ‘A Day to Make a Difference’ initiative, and saw 12 colleagues from Nisa’s Partner Support Centre tending to the patient gardens at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Volunteers sanded down benches and cleared, pruned and weeded flowerbeds and pathways to create a tidy, peaceful outdoor space for those visiting the hospital, and produce a blank canvas for the area to be replanted.

A Day to Make a Difference offers Nisa employees the opportunity to spend either a full or half day volunteering with a local good cause, allowing them to develop new skills and gain volunteering experience, whilst helping charities and other good causes in the area. 

Such was the enthusiasm for the scheme that places for the first three volunteering opportunities – at Scunthorpe General Hospital, Inclusive@AALPS and The Forge Project – were booked onto within just a few days.

Kate Carroll, Head of Charity at Nisa, said: “After months of planning, we were delighted to see the A Day to Make a Difference initiative come to fruition and are thrilled with what our team of volunteers have achieved.

“It was great to see colleagues from across the business working together with those they might not usually spend time with and there was a great sense of teamwork and pride in what they had accomplished for a local cause.

“We also received some fantastic feedback from staff at the hospital on how great the gardens looked and we are very much looking forward to our next volunteering session in September.”
