Happy birthday MADL!

Nisa’s charity, Making a Difference Locally (MADL) is celebrating its 10th birthday this year with a raft of both consumer and member-facing activity.

The charity, which was formed in 2008 to help independent retailers to support their local communities, will mark the occasion with a series of events and in-store and online activity throughout the year.

To highlight the significant contribution Nisa members make to their communities through MADL, Nisa’s annual retail exhibition at NAEC Stoneleigh this year adopted a ’10 years of Making a Difference Locally’ theme. Those attending the gala dinner were also treated to a video highlighting some of the fantastic causes the charity has supported over the last decade.

From May onwards, all products featured on the Nisa consumer leaflet will contribute a donation to MADL, in addition to all Heritage own label products, to drive further income for the charity and therefore greater investment in local communities. Nisa members will also receive 10th birthday-themed point of sale kits to create in-store theatre and highlight the charity initiative to their customers in-store.

In addition, Making a Difference Locally will be taking to the road via 10th birthday-themed Nisa lorry sides and will be supported heavily via social media activity throughout the year, including a competition offering 10 small charities the chance to win a marketing package worth £10,000 to help them to increase public awareness and engagement.

To engage Nisa colleagues with the charity and involve them in its birthday celebrations, a 10th birthday party/fundraising day will also be held at Nisa’s Member Support Centre to raise money for a local cause.

Nisa’s Head of Charity, Kate Carroll, commented: “This is a milestone year for Making a Difference Locally and we intend to use it to celebrate the thousands of fantastic causes we’ve been able to support over the last decade.

“We’re delighted to have donated over £7.5m to these causes over the last 10 years, and through the marketing campaign and range of themed activity planned, we hope to champion the valuable contribution that both these causes and independent retailers make to their communities, and thank everyone involved for their support.”
