The future is with Nisa

Long-standing Nisa retailer of 30 years, Peter Mann, supports Nisa’s innovative new store concept by transforming his Nisa Local store in Luton to the Store of the Future 2 format.

It took five days to convert the new state-of-the-art store in Farley Hill and after three weeks, sales figures are already increasing in all areas of the business particularly chilled, frozen and grocery products.

“We have had lots of positive customer feedback on how good the store looks, and consequently sales are already increasing! The store is fresh, inviting and more spacious thanks to the complete new look and it keeps us ahead of the competition as we have a Co-op next door to us,” said Peter who owns the store with his brother Jay.

“We see customers go in Co-op and then into our store because they find we have a much larger range and better prices! I couldn’t think of being with any other symbol group- Nisa is so convenient and has strong buying power and delivery services.”

This neighbourhood format store also installed a Post Office to increase footfall. Peter added: “The owners of the local Post Office were retiring, and we felt our business was in a positive position to install it- it gives us a point of difference compared to competitors and brings in new custom.”

The store was created from extensive research of Nisa’s existing store formats and shopper missions which consequently led to it identifying five key format areas- neighbourhood, high street, small store, forecourt and supermarket.

There are now 50 converted Store of the Future 2 formats and it is proving so successful there are a further 50 retailers in the process of converting.

Raj Krishan, Nisa’s format and development director, said: “This is another fine example of our store evolution refit programme working and benefiting not only customers but our members too.

“The extensive planning and research we put in at the start of this project has seen consistent double digit growth in all of the stores that have converted and this is driving retailers to make the change- the conversion list is only getting longer!”
