Almost 5,000 students now have access to a well-stocked convenience store on their doorstep thanks to a new partnership with Nisa.
The Village Store, situated on the Endcliffe Student Village at the University of Sheffield, began taking supplies from Nisa in September, just in time for students arriving at the campus for the start of a new term
Originally supplied by P&H, the store had been struggling to resolve their supply situation until they saw the Nisa offer and joined the group.
With all major supermarkets less than a 20-minute walk away from campus and also offering home deliveries, store manager Rachel Fletcher knows they can’t compete with them, however she believes their convenient location and product range will ensure the continued success of the shop.
“Convenience is exactly what we are about. We can’t compete with the large supermarkets but we have exactly what the students need, all on hand, and at competitive prices,” said Rachel.
Soft drinks, crisps and bagged snacks and biscuits all do well with frozen pizzas and vodka the best sellers.
And because most students cook individually for themselves, rather than in groups, products in small or individual portions sell well. The arrival of the new Co-op own label range is also something expected to do well in the store, with students recognising the brand from home.
Rachel said: “It is still early days but we’re enjoying the access to such a great range and I think our students are too.”
